Ideas in Passing from Joan Chittister
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
The future is many things at once. It is the vessel into which
we pour all our hopes and all our fears. “When all else is lost,”
Christian Bovee says, “the future still remains.” The problem is
that future is a panacea for some and a threat to others. It is
at the edge of the future that we walk off the side of a cliff
into the arms of God.

IDEAS IN PASSING.
Each week of Lent, Joan Chittister reflects on one
of the women’s stories in light of the Sunday
Scripture and invites you to contemplate the impact
on your own spirituality. She poses the question:
“Why would anyone take on such difficulties, not
only for the sake of their own lives, but for the sake
of others as well?” In your answer to this question,
she writes, is the very meaning of both Lent and life.
