Her keen mind was clearly evident to those around her, so much so that she was invited by a professor to consider doctoral studies at Penn State University. No Erie Benedictine had ever gone on for doctoral work, but Joan eagerly accepted the challenge. In the providence of God, Joan was at the university studying leadership theory, just when the country as a whole was recognizing the absolute necessity for participative leadership. It was also the beginning years of the women’s movement. Joan became fascinated with the interplay between leadership theory and the role of women. |
